Was just discussing this with someone, which was here: Clicky! If you'd rather skip on all that, just answer this one question...

...why isn't there a CSI San Francisco? All the other shows, minus the original, spawned from cast going to the city that show was based in.

They have been to San Francisco...so...?

CSI Actor Popularity

A while back, on one of CSI mailing lists I belong to, posters were discussing the actors and their popularity. The general feeling was that William Peterson was the most popular CSI actor. He's the named headliner. He does most of the interviews and a lot of Grissom/Sara shippers think he's hot. Marg also seemed like she should be popular for her classic beauty. The feeling was she should have a lot of male fans. People were surprised, in linking to articles elsewhere, that Jorja Fox seemed to be so popular, or more popular than Marg. Seeing as I had the time, I was kind of curious about this.

Ignoring the official sites, I collected the links of some CSI actor based fansites hosted on their own domains. They included allaboutmarg.com, ericszmanda.tk, jorjafox.net, marghelgenberger.com, purejorja.net, thegarydourdanexperience.net, william-petersen.com. I needed sites on their own domain because you could measure traffic. I couldn't find any fansites for George Eads hosted on their own domain. I also excluded official sites. I ran the domain through Compete.Com which measures the amount of US based traffic a site gets every month. ( I got the following data set... )

Then I took the average of every month for every fansite in the sample for that actor. ( I got the following results.. )

Then I changed the N/As (which meant there was so little traffic that Compete.Com couldn't calculate it) to zeros. That resulted in the following:



I wasn't surprised that Jorja Fox's fansites got the most traffic. Some of the most popular pairings involve her: Grissom/Sara, Catherine/Sara, and Sara/Nick. I was surprised that Jorja Fox was TWICE as popular, in terms of web traffic to fansites about her, as Marg Helgenberger. Not surprising that Jorja Fox fansites got hammered in May, during the finale for Season 7, when rumors were abound about her possibly leaving the show. Marg had a movie come out in the two month or so. It doesn't look like traffic peaked in those months for her related fansites.

William Petersen being number shouldn't come as much of a surprise. He's the star of the show, the executive producer.


Gary Dourdan being the number two guy some what surprised me. The lack of additional traffic to the fansite for him after her made news over that paparazzi thing was kind of surprising. Is he popular, like Jorja Fox with that large lesbian audience, because he caters to a certain market of the show? Is he generating interest from African American fans?

And where is George Eads? Why isn't there a fan base with a website for him that generates any measurable traffic hosted on its own domain?

Any more links to CSI actor fan sites? And anyone have any explanations or theories for what is going on?
