new to CSI, Question please

I am catching up on old CSI eps now on Spike. My question is about Grissom. Have they ever mentioned his family or his past? Also, which relationship seemed more genuine, Sara or Lady H? I always get the feeling he's with Sara because she's so persistent and so conveinent. Sara is doing the chasing, but with Lady H, it's Grissom in hot pursuit.
